Common questions about dental veneers
What is an Emax veneer?
The Emax veneer is a very thin shell made of lithium disilicate, a high-performance ceramic. It mimics the translucency of natural enamel while withstanding more than 400 MPa, which makes it both attractive and strong. To compare all the materials, take a look at our complete veneers guide.
How long is the stay in Istanbul?
Allow 5 to 7 days on site. That covers the initial examination, preparing the teeth, making the veneers in the laboratory and fitting them for good. Our dental care in Turkey is organised so everything flows without any dead time.
Is fitting veneers painful?
No, it is a painless procedure. Preparation is done under local anaesthetic and stays very light: barely 0.3 to 0.5 mm of enamel is removed. Most patients are back to normal life the next day.
What is the difference between veneers and crowns?
A veneer covers only the visible face of the tooth, with minimal preparation. A dental crown, on the other hand, covers the whole tooth: it is kept for teeth that are badly damaged or root-treated. Your dentist points you towards the right option after an examination.
Why do veneers cost less in Turkey?
Running costs are lower in Turkey, without cutting corners on quality: our partner clinics fit the same CE-marked materials as in Europe. As a result, you make up to 70% savings compared with the UK, and the full figures are in our price list.
How long do Emax veneers last?
Well looked after, Emax veneers often last 10 years or more. A 2024 meta-analysis on lithium disilicate veneers reports a pooled survival rate of about 97% at 10 years (Klein et al., 2024). Our patient reviews give a concrete idea of the results.
How do I look after my veneers?
Nothing complicated: brush twice a day with a soft brush, floss, and have a check-up once a year. Avoid biting very hard foods and, if you have bruxism (teeth grinding), wear a night guard while you sleep. That is all it takes to keep them for a long time.

Let’s discuss your project
Dental veneers are thin shells fitted over the visible face of the teeth to correct their colour, shape or alignment. Today it is one of the most requested treatments in aesthetic dentistry, and for good reason: it transforms a smile in a few days, with no endless course of treatment. One question still has to be settled, and that is the material. Composite, feldspathic, Emax, zirconia, Lumineers: each has its strengths. With Body Expert, you get the best of them in our partner clinics in Istanbul, selected for their facilities and their dentists’ experience, with up to 70% savings compared with the UK.
The material is what decides the look, the lifespan and the day-to-day comfort. Here is what to keep in mind about each option, without the needless jargon.
Composite veneers are shaped from a tooth-coloured resin. There are two methods: the direct route, where the dentist sculpts the resin straight onto the tooth in a single session, and the indirect route, where the veneer is made in a laboratory from an impression.
It is the most affordable option, and the direct method barely touches the tooth, so it stays reversible. The downside? Composite tends to dull over time under the effect of coffee, tea or tobacco, and it copes less well with knocks than ceramic does. Its lifespan is around 3 to 7 years, against 10 years or more for ceramics. Touch-ups are therefore more frequent, which eventually weighs on the budget.
Feldspathic ceramic is the traditional school of aesthetic dentistry. Fired at high temperature from natural minerals, it reproduces the translucency of enamel beautifully. Each veneer is sculpted by hand by the technician: genuine craftsmanship.
In return, it stays more fragile than Emax or zirconia. It is kept for light corrections, on teeth in good condition, where a very thin layer is enough. Well looked after, it often lasts 10 to 15 years.
Emax veneers have become the global benchmark in aesthetic restoration. They are cut from lithium disilicate, a glass-ceramic developed by the laboratory Ivoclar Vivadent (Liechtenstein), which offers the best balance of strength, translucency and thinness.
Their flexural strength exceeds 400 MPa: enough to take everyday chewing in its stride. The clinical track record is reassuring, with a pooled survival rate of about 97% at 10 years for lithium disilicate veneers (Klein et al., 2024). Above all, Emax responds to light almost like natural enamel, which gives that strikingly realistic look. The whole thing is milled with CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing), down to the micron.
Another advantage, and not a small one: the thickness often stays around 0.3 to 0.5 mm. Preparation stays minimal and keeps as much healthy tooth as possible. It is the material our partner dentists in Istanbul recommend first for a result that is both natural and long-lasting.
Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) veneers play the strength card, the highest of all the options. This material is also used for dental crowns and implant abutments, which tells you how much it can take.
It is sometimes chosen for teeth under heavy load. In cases of bruxism (teeth grinding), a night guard still matters more than the choice of ceramic. Clinical follow-up on zirconia veneers is still shorter than for Emax. The trade-off? It is a little more opaque than Emax, which can work against a natural look on the front teeth, and it calls for more marked preparation (0.5 to 0.7 mm).
Lumineers are ultra-thin veneers made from a patented ceramic (cerinate), produced only by the American laboratory DenMat. Their signature is their tiny thickness (0.2 to 0.3 mm), similar to a contact lens, which sometimes allows fitting with no preparation at all.
On paper, the process is therefore reversible, since the tooth is left untouched. In practice, Lumineers often stay more opaque than Emax, so a little less natural. They come only from the DenMat laboratory in the United States, hence a 3 to 4 week wait, and their strength stays below that of Emax or zirconia.
This table sums it all up: Emax veneers strike the best compromise between durability, natural aesthetics and respect for the tooth. That is precisely why they are so often chosen by patients who come to Turkey for treatment.
Veneers treat a wide range of flaws that simple teeth whitening cannot erase.
Some deep stains will not budge with standard whitening: marks linked to tetracyclines taken in childhood, fluorosis, or the after-effects of trauma. The veneer masks them by covering the visible face of the tooth.
Teeth that are too short, too narrow, slightly overlapping, or separated by diastemas (those small gaps between the teeth): on mild to moderate cases, the veneer offers a shortcut compared with orthodontics. In 5 to 7 days in Istanbul, you leave with an aligned smile, without months of braces.
Bruxism, acid erosion, wear with age: over time, teeth shorten and the smile loses its harmony. Veneers restore the right proportions while protecting the enamel that remains.
It all starts with an online consultation: you send your photos and a panoramic X-ray. Our dentists make a diagnosis and show you a projection of your future smile with Digital Smile Design. You see the result before you have even set foot in Turkey.
Unlike a crown, which involves significant grinding, a veneer needs minimal preparation. The dentist removes a thin layer of enamel (0.3 to 0.5 mm as a rule), under local anaesthetic. Impressions are taken with a 3D intra-oral scanner, then sent straight to the in-house laboratory.
Your veneers are then milled from ceramic blocks, down to the micron, using CAD/CAM technology. Because the prosthetics laboratory is built into the clinic, they are ready on site in 24 to 48 hours, with tight quality control.
The final fitting is done with composite resin, cured under a blue LED light. This step creates a very strong bond between the ceramic and the enamel: it is what makes the result hold up over time.
Among all these materials, Emax veneers stand out for two or three fundamental reasons. Their translucency mimics the play of light on enamel, where zirconia sometimes looks too opaque and composite a little dull. Their strength, beyond 400 MPa, places them just behind zirconia, without sacrificing how thinly they can be fitted.
The choice of material bears directly on long-term satisfaction (Meijering et al., 1997). And on that front, Emax ticks almost every box: no colour change, no yellowing, very good stain resistance. For a Hollywood Smile as much as for a simply more harmonious smile, it stays a safe bet.
Whatever the material, a few simple habits extend the life of your veneers. Brush twice a day with a soft brush and a non-abrasive toothpaste, and floss every day to keep plaque away from the edges. Go easy on coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, even though ceramics resist stains well. If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects your restorations. And an annual check-up lets you have everything looked over, with a scale and polish.
Body Expert also provides post-operative follow-up once you are back home. To dig into the subject and refine your choice, see our complete dental veneers guide, or ask directly for your free quote for dental care in Turkey.
Dental veneers give back a harmonious smile in a few days, with no long treatment and no braces. Fitted over the visible face of the teeth, these thin shells correct the shade, the shape and small alignment flaws. The real decision is the material: composite appeals with its entry price, feldspathic ceramic with its handcrafted look, zirconia with its strength, and Lumineers with their no-preparation fitting. For most patients, Emax keeps a head start, because it brings together natural translucency, good strength and minimal preparation of the tooth.
