Holm and co-authors (2026) came at the problem through the health system that picks up the aftermath: across 53 cases treated by the Swedish public sector between 2018 and 2024, the largest share of complications traced back to operations performed on Swedish soil. Infection came well out in front, mostly after abdominoplasty or breast surgery.

Campbell, Restrepo, Luna-Pisciotti and Hernandez (2025) measured what happens inside a high-volume centre taking international patients: 2324 patients, 7141 procedures, 6.2% complications reported per patient and 2.2% per procedure, figures of the same order as published American series. Their analysis points to case volume, regulatory oversight and discipline in applying protocols.

Facelift. The facelift addresses the loose skin that hollows the jawline into jowls and blurs the oval of the face. More limited versions exist where skin and age allow, for a narrower correction. The surgeon weighs up the quality of the tissues and what you want to avoid above all, a stretched face being the usual answer; that fear is worth raising at the pre-operative conversation.

Body

Abdominoplasty. Pregnancy or major weight loss sometimes leaves abdominal skin that no longer retracts. Abdominoplasty removes that excess and tightens the wall beneath. It is an extensive operation, it asks for serious preparation and a recovery you actually respect, and it is one of the procedures the Swedish series above finds most often among infectious complications.

Liposuction. Liposuction treats pockets of fat that give way to neither exercise nor changes in diet, on the arms, the thighs, the stomach, the hips or under the chin. It reshapes one area in someone whose weight is stable, and comes with precise instructions on compression.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). The BBL transfers your own fat to the buttocks to reshape their curve, so the donor area slims down as the recipient area takes shape. The final volume depends on how much of the graft your tissues keep, which means the plan is built from your anatomy rather than from a figure announced in advance. Harvesting and re-injection have to stay within safety limits, and that calls for a team well practised in the technique.

Bodylift. When loose skin extends beyond the stomach and affects several areas, a bodylift can be considered. The indication is heavier, it is decided on the file, and the recovery calendar then feeds straight into whether coming to Istanbul makes sense.

Breasts

Breast augmentation. Choosing an implant depends on your chest frame, how supple the skin is and the cleavage you have in mind. Lipofilling is the other route when the volume you want is modest and the idea of an implant puts you off. The decision is taken from photos, then at the clinical examination in Istanbul.

Breast reduction. Too much breast volume weighs on the back, digs the straps into the shoulders and gets in the way of sport. Reduction lightens and reshapes at the same time. The gain shows up as much in daily comfort as in appearance.

Breast lift (mastopexy). Breastfeeding and time empty the breast, which then drops. Mastopexy lifts it and gives back its curve, sometimes with an implant alongside, depending on the skin left, the volume available and the goal you describe.

Breast lipofilling. Re-injecting your own fat into the breast avoids any foreign body, with a gain in volume that is necessarily modest. When the goal outstrips what fat can deliver, the surgeon will suggest an implant instead.

For men, and intimate surgery

Gynaecomastia. Gland development, excess fat, or both together, give the male chest a shape that training does not shift. Liposuction and removal of the gland are balanced according to what the examination shows.

Male liposuction, pectoral implants, hair transplants. Male fat sits mostly on the stomach, the flanks and the neck, and the treatment plan follows that. Pectoral implants sometimes complete the shape of the chest where the indication justifies it, and a hair transplant fits into the same stay in Istanbul.
