Your questions about breast lifts in Turkey

Am I a good candidate for a breast lift?

A breast lift is for women bothered by breast ptosis, in other words breasts that have started to sag. The best candidates have a satisfactory breast volume but a shape changed by pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or the passing years. In a free consultation, our surgeons assess your situation and point you towards the technique that suits you best.

What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

A breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts without changing their volume. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, adds volume with implants or a fat transfer. The two procedures actually pair very well in a single operation, if you want to both raise and add volume to your breasts.

How long does the operation take?

Allow 2.5 to 3 hours on average, under general anaesthetic. You then spend one night under observation at the clinic, for your comfort and safety. You head back to your hotel the very next day.

Do the results of a breast lift last?

Yes. A breast lift lasts 10 to 15 years on average. To hold on to that result for as long as possible, it is best to keep a steady weight and wear a supportive bra day to day. The natural ageing of the skin, of course, quietly carries on.

What scars are left after a breast lift?

It all depends on the technique. The peri-areolar approach leaves a fine scar around the areola. The vertical approach adds a line running from the areola down to the fold. The inverted-T technique, more extensive, is kept for severe sagging. In every case, the scars fade and turn fine and pale within 6 to 12 months. Worried about scarring? That is exactly the kind of thing we talk through together, right from the consultation.

Can you breastfeed after a breast lift

In most cases, yes: a breast lift preserves the milk ducts (the channels that carry milk) and the mammary gland. A study at the Henri-Mondor hospital covering 209 patients still found successful breastfeeding in 41% of cases after surgery, compared with 82% without surgery (Faure et al., 2024). If you are thinking about a pregnancy, mention it to your surgeon: it is worth weighing up before the operation.

What are the risks of a breast lift?

Like any surgery, a breast lift carries risks, but they stay limited. A review of 34 studies puts the overall complication rate at around 10%, the most common being minor healing issues and temporary changes in nipple sensation (di Summa et al., 2019). Close follow-up and sticking to the post-operative instructions cut these risks noticeably.

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, restores firmness to breasts that have started to sag. This slackening has a name, breast ptosis, and it affects many women after a pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or simply with the years. The idea: reposition the areola and nipple, remove the excess skin and give the breast a shapely, natural form again.

Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift does not change the volume; it restores firmness and shape. Nothing stops you combining it with implants or a breast fat transfer, though, when you would also like to gain a little volume.

Your breast lift journey in Istanbul

Free online consultation

You talk things through with our medical team to gauge the degree of sagging and choose the right technique. Your personalised quote arrives within 24 hours.

Arrival in Istanbul and pre-operative assessment

We handle your private transfer, from the airport to your 5-star hotel. A full work-up (breast imaging, blood tests, anaesthetic consultation) is carried out so we can operate safely.

Surgery at the clinic

The operation lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthetic. Our surgeons take particular care over the sutures, for discreet scars and a natural shape.

Post-operative follow-up and going home

After a night at the clinic, your surgeon checks the result. You leave with a compression bra and a clear care protocol. Follow-up carries on remotely, in English, for several months.

Breast lift techniques: choosing the right one for the sagging

The choice of technique depends on the degree of ptosis (how far the breast has sagged), which we assess with the Regnault classification:

Grade What we see Suitable technique
Grade I (mild) The nipple sits at the level of the inframammary fold Peri-areolar approach
Grade II (moderate) The nipple drops below the fold, above the lower pole Vertical approach
Grade III (severe) The nipple points downwards, at the lowest point of the breast Inverted-T technique (anchor)

The peri-areolar approach leaves only a scar around the areola: ideal for mild sagging. The vertical approach adds a vertical scar, from the areola to the fold, for more thorough reshaping. The inverted-T technique offers the most complete correction and is kept for severe sagging. In every case, the scars pale and thin out noticeably within 6 to 12 months.

A breast lift pairs happily with implants (this is then called an augmentation-mastopexy) or with a fat transfer, for those who want to both raise and add volume to the breasts. As part of a mommy makeover, it is often combined with a tummy tuck and liposuction to regain your figure after pregnancy.

In Turkey, a breast lift costs far less than in the UK: up to 70% savings, without giving an inch on quality of care or on the surgical facilities. The all-inclusive breakdown is in our pricing table, higher up this page.

Surgeons who operate a great deal, modern clinics, prices far gentler than in Western Europe: the equation wins over more and more UK patients. The trick is to surround yourself with the right people. Here is what to know before taking the plunge.

Why have your breast lift in Turkey?

Choosing Turkey with Body Expert means reaching real breast-surgery expertise without blowing your budget. Our Istanbul clinic has operating theatres built to the latest standards, and our plastic surgeons have thousands of breast procedures behind them.

Above all, everything is handled directly, with no middleman: a dedicated English-speaking assistant, airport transfers, comfortable accommodation and proper medical follow-up before, during and after your stay. That direct care is your guarantee of full transparency on prices and a real thread running through the whole trip, from the first message to your return home.

Who is it for? When a breast lift is indicated

A breast lift is for women bothered by moderate to severe breast ptosis, breasts that have lost their firmness. The causes are well known: pregnancy and breastfeeding, significant weight loss, the natural ageing of the skin, or simply a family tendency to sag.

The patients who benefit most have nipples pointing downwards, breasts that have become asymmetrical, or a still-decent volume paired with a sagging shape. The operation is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is active breast disease. One last piece of advice: it is better to have finished your plans for pregnancy before going ahead, for a result that holds over time.

How does the operation work?

The operation takes place under general anaesthetic and calls for one night under observation at the clinic. The surgeon starts with a personalised marking, then adapts the incision to the degree of ptosis. Next they reshape the gland, reposition the areola and nipple, remove the excess skin and close with sutures in several layers.

Recovery is generally well tolerated, with moderate pain eased by ordinary painkillers. You wear a medical bra day and night for 4 to 6 weeks. Everyday life picks up again after 7 to 10 days, sport after 6 to 8 weeks. As for the final result, it reveals itself between 3 and 6 months, once the swelling has gone down and the tissues have settled.

Results and patient satisfaction

Patients are, in the vast majority, very happy with the result. A prospective study of 106 operations (vertical mastopexy, augmentation-mastopexy and reduction) reports 94.3% of patients satisfied, better self-esteem in 89.3% of them and improved quality of life for nearly 7 in 10, with an average score of 9 out of 10 (Swanson, 2013).

On safety, a systematic review of 34 studies, almost 1900 patients, puts the overall complication rate at 10.4%, of which only 1.3% were judged unsatisfactory results (di Summa et al., 2019). The most common minor niggles? Healing problems (around 3%) and changes in the sensation of the areola (around 3% too), usually temporary.

A breast lift lasts 10 to 15 years on average. A steady weight, a healthy lifestyle, giving up smoking and a supportive bra day to day all help the result last.

Breast lifts and breastfeeding

This is a question that comes up often. Good news: in most cases a breast lift preserves the milk ducts (the channels that carry milk) and the mammary gland. A retrospective study at the Henri-Mondor hospital, run on 209 patients, still found successful breastfeeding in 41% of cases after surgery, compared with 82% without surgery (Faure et al., 2024). If a pregnancy is in your plans, talk it over with your surgeon before the operation.

Risks and contraindications

Like any surgery, a breast lift carries risks, but they stay well controlled. The most frequent are healing issues, a slight residual asymmetry, a haematoma or a temporary change in nipple sensation. Serious complications, for their part, are rare. Close follow-up and respecting the post-operative instructions make a real difference.

Certain situations rule the operation out: an ongoing pregnancy or breastfeeding, clotting disorders, active smoking (you will be asked to stop at least a month before), unstable autoimmune diseases or a breast cancer in progress.

In summary

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes slackened breasts without necessarily changing their volume. It corrects the ptosis that settles in after a pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or the passing years, by repositioning the areola and removing the excess skin. Depending on the degree of sagging, the surgeon chooses a peri-areolar, vertical or inverted-T approach, with scars that fade over a few months.

The clinical data is reassuring: high satisfaction, limited complications and a result that holds for a good ten years or more. That said, the choice of clinic and surgeon makes all the difference, especially when you are travelling abroad for your operation. It is only natural to have a thousand questions before taking the step.
