FUE Hair Transplantion

The surgery technique “FUE+PRP” (Follicular Unit Extraction+Platelet Rich Plasma) is successfully used by the best international surgeons for more than 10 years. Once the harvesting and implantation zones are defined, the grafts are counted and withdrawn, mostly from the back of the skull. Manual FUE grafts extraction

The FUE manual extraction of hair transplant grafts is a surgical technique that is minimally invasive and causes less damage to the surrounding tissue than the motorized micro punch. The surgeon has better control over the extraction with a manual punch and can better adapt it to the physiological conditions of the scalp. This technique limits the risks of torsion, friction and heating of the follicles and results in less damage to the neighboring grafts. The FUE manual extraction is performed in a lateral slit, unlike the motorized micro punch which must be placed vertically to the scalp for the extraction of the graft.

The Sapphire-FUE uses sapphire blades, instead of classic steel blades during the incision process in the receiving zone. This technical innovation minimizes scabs formation and accelerates the transplantation, by opening smaller implantation canals in the implantation zone. The follicles are individually extracted and transplanted in the canals created by sapphire blades, varying between 0,6 and 0,8 mm in diameter. These receiving canals have a significant influence on the density, inclination and direction of the hair growth, which is decisive for a natural aspect of hair transplantation.

Laser Hair Growth Treatment

Laser hair growth treatment helps stimulate graft regrowth and reduce recovery time after hair transplantation by increasing the amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP, the fuel for living cells in the follicle, promotes increased cell activity. This increased cell activity helps to regenerate the hair follicles and encourage new hair growth. The laser treatment also reduces the side effects of hair transplantation, such as swelling and inflammation.

What is the PRP treatment ?

Human blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. Platelets are small cells that contain “growth factors.” In the event of an injury, they are the ones that allow, thanks to the growth factors, to ensure the repair of the tissue and its healing. PRP hair treatment involves isolating platelets from a blood sample to concentrate them by centrifugation and to re-inject them into areas of the patient’s scalp.

The DHI Hair Transplant Technique
Faster and better transplantation

DHI hair transplant technique is the newest method in hair transplant. Extraction is the same as with the FUE method. But implanting process is different. An implanting process implanter (Choi) pen is sometimes called the Choi technique. With the DHI Hair implanter pen, the extraction of grafts from the harvesting zone to the implantation zone is simultaneous, enabling the implantation of the follicles without creating incision channels. Each hair follicle is placed in a specific direction, angle and depth. This technique, paired with a local needleless sedation system, offers the patient a faster and more comfortable operation.

Hair transplant, step by step

After the interview with the hair surgeon, the giving and the receiving zones are determined according to the wishes of the patient and its hair nature. Once the PRP treatment has been implemented, the grafts are simultaneously extracted and implanted with an electrical micro-punch equipped with sapphire blades, or a DHI implanting punch. The operation should last between 5 and 8 hours, according to the size of the grafting zone. It is generally finished in one day, but can also be done in two days, depending on the size of the zone to cover.

Step 1 : pre-operation consultancy

The first step of a hair graft always starts with a consultation between the patient and their hair surgeon. It ables to precise the type of alopecia of the patient, presents the different hair grafting techniques, and to choose the best-adapted method. A line is drawn on the scalp of the patient, designing the zone where the hair will have grown, and matching the type of implantation the client desires.

Step 2 : Extracting the follicles from the giving zone

Whatever the technique chosen (FUE or DHI), the operation starts with the extraction of the grafts from the giving zone, generally behind the head. If the follicles are insufficient on the occiput, the surgery team can extract the follicles from other parts of the skin (beard or/and torso, call BHT (body Hair transplant)). For women, full alopecia is very rare: follicles are extracted from the back or the sides of the skull.

Step 3 : PRP treatment

To guarantee the best possible grafting results of the implanted follicles, the grafts will be treated following PRP procedures (platelet-rich plasma). A small amount of blood is withdrawn from the patient and placed in a laboratory centrifuge to separate plasma and platelets from other components of the blood. Then the enriched plasma is reinjected into the scalp of the receiving zone, with a micro-needle. This method, systematically used in Dr Cinik’s clinic, stimulates the growth of the transplanted grafts.

Step 4 : Implantation of the follicles according to a precise capilar design

The extracted follicles are prepared and maintained according to a protocol that is essential to the success of the graft. Counted and chosen under a stereoscopic microscope, then kept at the ideal temperature, they are treated with PRP. During this laboratory procedure, the patient can make a break, with a light lunch, in a dedicated room, to relax and take some strength before the second phase of the operation. Once the grafts are ready to be implanted, a local anaesthetic is applied to the receiving zone.

After the operation

Once the operation is finished, the patient will follow the surgeon’s recommendations and take with him appropriate products (lotions, cream, prescribed drugs…) to protect the graft and help their rooting. The patient will avoid bending their head, to avoid blood surge (oedema) that would damage the implanted follicles, particularly fragile ones.

On the first evening, the patient will apply a physiological serum to the grafted zone. Any washing product is forbidden. For the two first nights, it is recommended to sleep in a half-seated position, to avoid any contact with the skull. Sleeping on the back will be possible on the third night, but not on the front before the grafts are healed, for at least 2 weeks. However, the client can get back to their normal activities the next day. In the case of patients coming to Istanbul, Turkey, this postoperative day is used for the journey back home. The bandage, applied after the operation, can be withdrawn after 48 hours.

FAQ on hair transplantation

When can I resume sport after a hair transplant?

It is generally recommended that patients wait at least 3 months before resuming any strenuous physical activity following a hair transplant. This allows the grafts time to heal and settle in their new location. It is important to avoid any sports or activities that cause a temperature rise on the head skin, as this can damage the grafts. Yoga and other low-impact exercises can be safely resumed after one week.

How do I take care of my hair after hair transplantation?

During the first weeks, avoid any washing product, gel, lacquer, wax or colouration. An antiseptic will be applied softly on the skin and will be gently rinsed with a mild water at moderate pressure. A successful transplant is also determined by strict care of the hair after the operation. Argan oil, sesame oil or coconut oil can help nourish the scalp and soft shampoos with natural ingredients will be favoured.

Finally, to optimize the graft, alcohol and tobacco must be momentarily stopped, and a healthy diet rich in minerals and poor in fat can offer newly grafted hair a well-oxygenated and nourishing blood influx.

What activities to avoid after hair transplantation?

The patient should avoid any physical and intimate intercourse activity that could cause a blood rush to the head during the first month after the hair transplant. This includes riding motorcycles (as wearing a helmet can be fatal to your newly transplanted grafts), swimming, and sun exposure. Additionally, the patient should avoid any heat source such as a sauna or hammam during the three first months.
